Rock star net-zero home

Karen and Dan are understandably proud of their new home — the first 5-star green-rated home in Round Rock. There’s nothing like it anywhere in the neighborhood. From the street, it looks like a perfectly ordinary craftsman-style home. But this home is the result of careful planning, thoughtful design, and deliberate choices that make it super-energy efficient.

Colorful condo remodel

A spacious condo, in a terrific location in central Austin. But it was tired and needed a facelift. Its new owner wanted a colorful home — warm and welcoming –to showcase her collection of folk art, handpicked during years of travel. It was a joy to work with her and help her realize her vision.

North Austin remodel

The home owner was relocating from the Los Angeles area to Austin. She purchased a nice home set in a lovely north Austin neighborhood. But the house needed top-to-bottom improvements. We worked with her to develop a plan and budget and went to work. She flew into Austin once a month for meetings and to make decisions; otherwise, we kept her up-to-date via phone, email, and progress photos.

Geothermal home near Zilker Park

2009 MAX Award for Best Green Home, Custom Builder. Five-star green rating. The owners of this new custom home wanted the most energy-efficient home possible, including a geothermal heat pump system to heat and cool their home. They wanted a home that connected with the natural setting and fit well on their inner-city lot. The result? This comfortable, well-planned home is quietly elegant and soulful.

Tarrytown remodel–better use of space

This family home was large, but its awkward layout used the space poorly. We designed and made extensive changes that gave parents and kids an additional 800 square feet of new living space — without increasing the footprint of the house. A study in clever (re)design.

Dripping Springs sunset

A retired couple planned carefully for their custom home. It had to be not so big. It had to be energy efficient and easy to maintain. It had to be situated on their property to take advantage of the Hill Country views and breezes. They came to us with well-thought-out goals, and we designed and built a house that would have rated five stars, but the Austin Energy Green Building program wasn’t rating homes in that service area back then.

Greenovate home in East Austin

People call us all the time. “Hey, I saw that TV show. That was great.” In 2008, Solluna Builders built a 5-star green-rated home for home owner Cynthia Brown in east Austin. It was filmed by the Discovery Channel for the Greenovate TV show. It has been airing on the show ever since. Check out [...]

Spicewood safe house

A middle-aged couple had a special problem: The husband has multiple chemical sensitivities. Their custom home could contain absolutely no petroleum-based products or toxic materials. No off-gassing. The house literally had to pass the client’s smell test.

Farmhouse garage in the city

Decades ago, a farm house had been moved from the country onto a city lot in a central south Austin neighborhood. The home had a lot of charm and character, and its new owners loved it. Only problem was, it had no garage.
