This Old House to Office
Process
Solluna doesn’t normally handle commercial construction, but we know a lot about houses, and this was an old house. The project required careful planning, design, and engineering to achieve the goals. Upstairs attic space was reinforced and expanded, more than doubling usable office space. Insulation and a new air conditioning vastly improved the building’s comfort and lowered energy bills. Improvements were made to office and downstairs space while honoring the house’s quirky charm and ambience.
Setting
A 100-year-old house used as office space, close to downtown Austin
Goals
The Coalition of Texans with Disabilities is a non-profit organization that works to ensure that persons with disabilities may work, live, learn, play and participate fully in the community of their choice. Their new headquarters in a 100-year-old house was a terrific location for them. But they needed more office space, and they needed to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of the building.
Result
Improved office space that enables this non-profit organization to do their important work for the community.
